This course is an introductory problem solving course exposing the students to the basic concepts of dynamics in the areas of kinematics and kinetics. Problem solutions focus on a systematic approach utilizing a logical progression from the known to the unknown. This includes problem set-up, identification of the variables, application of appropriate formulas and determination on the answer(s) using manual calculations and/or spreadsheet software applications. Laboratory experiments are included to demonstrate principles studied in the course. Topics include linear motion, projectile motion, angular motion, inertia, mass moment of inertia, work by a constant force or torque, work by a linearly varying force, gravitational potential energy, kinetic energy, conservation of energy, power, efficiency, impulse and momentum.
