(London, Ontario) – The St. Clair College Women’s Basketball team were giant killers Tuesday night in London taking down the top ranked team in Ontario and the #2 rated team in Canada defeating Fanshawe College by a score of 78-67. The Lady Saints are now 3-1 on the season and sit in 2nd place in the OCAA’s West Division.

St. Clair started quickly and shot themselves ahead 20-15 after the opening quarter. By halftime the Saints held a 35-28 advantage but allowed Fanshawe to climb back to within a point (46-45) by the end of the third quarter. However, St. Clair put the game away with a 32-point outburst in the final frame. Statistically the Saints trailed in most categories but scored 33 points off 25 Fanshawe turnovers while holding the home team to just 33% shooting. St. Clair shot the ball well in return making 41% from the field and nearly as well from beyond the arc converting 38% (9-24).

2nd year Saints guard Jana Kucera (Chatham, ON) continued her fine play leading all scorers with 19 points to go with 6 rebounds and 3 steals. St. Clair point guard Anna Ulicny (Tecumseh, ON/St. Anne) kept up her long distance shooting making four triples and finished with 18 points adding 4 assists. Logan Kucera (Chatham, ON) was a key playmaker scoring 13 points and recorded 10 assists for the double-double performance. Noor Bazzi (Windsor, ON/Vincent Massey) chipped in with 11 points off the bench for the Saints with a perfect score from distance (2-2) and the charity stripe (3-3).

The St. Clair Women’s Basketball team will wait until Nov. 16th to resume their regular season schedule when they host Mohawk College (Hamilton) at 6:00pm. They face Niagara College (Welland) Nov. 17th at 1:00pm to complete the home weekend.
