Students participate in Academic Integrity survey | St. Clair College
Friday, December 17, 2021

Almost 2,000 St. Clair College students participated in one of the largest global studies ever conducted on the subject of Academic Integrity.

The study by the U.S.-based International Center for Academic Integrity invited universities and colleges from all over the world to promote the survey to their students and encourage them to participate.

The survey will be used to determine the rates of academic misconduct, assess the climate of integrity and understand student perspectives, while providing help to faculty and administrators to improve the academic integrity culture on campuses and online.

St. Clair College’s Centre for Academic Excellence, which oversees issues pertaining to academic integrity, will use the survey to gather information directly from students, and compare the college’s culture with other schools.

There were 1,966 St. Clair students who completed the survey, and 20 of those students received a $250 bursary for their participation.

“We are tremendously pleased with the participation of our students in this survey,” said Pat Papadeas, St. Clair’s Academic Integrity Coordinator. “The results will help inform the strategies we implement to continue to build a strong culture of academic integrity at St. Clair College.”

The Centre for Academic Excellence is looking forward to a new initiative, Papadeas added. “We have developed a tutorial to help students learn with academic integrity and avoid issues associated with academic misconduct.”

The tutorial, called "Learn It To Earn It", will be launched in the Winter 2022 semester on Blackboard and students will be able to complete it at their own pace.
