Best Pasta Dish award

WINDSOR, ON – Culinary Students from St. Clair College under the guidance of Chef Michael Jimmerfield won the Best Pasta Dish Title at UHC's first-ever Pastabilities Luncheon fundraiser. Where patrons voted on the finest pasta creation among 25 participating restaurants.

The Pastabilities Luncheon hosted by the UHC, in partnership with the Culinary Federation of Windsor took place on October 17, 2023, at the Ciociaro Club to raise funds for UHC's food initiatives. The event showcased a diverse array of pasta dishes, with the St. Clair College Culinary Students winning with their Asian-inspired pasta creation.

UHC's Pastabilities Fundraiser surpassed expectations, raising $50,000. These funds will go directly to help support initiatives combating hunger and food insecurity in our community.

"We extend a heartfelt congratulations to the students at St. Clair College. Not only does this showcase their culinary talent and dedication but also establish them as the very first winners, leaving behind a legacy for St. Clair College," said June Muir, CEO of the UHC – Hub of Opportunities. "I also want to express my gratitude to the community for coming together with a shared passion for feeding people. It is because of this collective effort we were able to raise $50,000 and make an impact on those battling hunger in our community. Your support is instrumental in our mission to ensure no one goes hungry."

For the UHC, the initial goal of the first Pastabilities Luncheon was to raise $50,000 – a target that initially seemed ambitious. However, the overwhelming generosity of the community surpassed all expectations. The UHC was $600 shy of reaching their goal when they received an unexpected call from Peter Pellerito, Chairperson, Unifor Local 444 Retirees Chapter, who made it possible for the UHC to reach this fundraising goal.

The triumph of the St. Clair College Culinary Students and their victory is celebrated, while equal commendation is extended to the community for making a substantial difference in the pursuit of alleviating hunger in our local area. The success of this event serves as a testament to what can be accomplished when a community comes together with a shared passion and purpose.
